Join Toronto's First Post Office, the York Pioneer & Historical Society and the Riverdale Historical Society to mark Simcoe Day, named in honour of the first Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada and a leader of the early Anti-Slavery movement!

 

Enjoy artefact displays, learn about the early history of our City from local authors and creators, explore the east end on a historical walking tour, and more!

  • Bob Georgiou, "From Scadding to Simcoe: A History & Geography"

​

This walking tour centres on three early Toronto settler families: the Simcoes, Scaddings, and Playters. From the Scadding Estate, we will jaunt up Broadview, Danforth, and Bloor to Castle Frank while discussing their histories and legacies.

​

  • Patricia Stowe, "Scadding’s Lot 15, from early to present day"

​

John Scadding received a land grant of approximately 250 acres just east of the Don known as Lot 15. We will learn about some of the varied purposes this land has served over the last 200+ years.
